Enterprise IP Transit Services - Arcnet
Arcnet is the brand name of NTT MSC's Internet services in Malaysia. Backed by NTT Communications global network and experience, Arcnet consists of a full range of Internet services mainly offered to the corporate market and high-end home users.

In line with NTT Communications vision of providing quality products and services, Arcnet services are provided with the latest technologies surrounding the Internet to allow customers to experience the capabilities of the Internet. Arcnet's focus is to deploy the next generation Internet services and solutions to its users whilst providing them the expertise and support needed to maximize the efficiency of day-to-day operations. In short, Arcnet is aimed at being a One-Stop Internet Service Provider.

Arcnet Internet
Total Internet Service Provider

In providing Arcnet services, NTT MSC has fulfilled all requirements of the Asia-Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) as a value-added Internet access provider and has been allocated an autonomous system number (ASN) and IPv4 and IPv6 address allocations respectively.

The inter point of presence (PoP) network infrastructure for Arcnet is built on domestic leased circuits from local telecommunication carriers; Telekom Malaysia, Maxis Communications and TIME dotCom. As for upstream IP transit services, NTT MSC purchases this from NTT Communications and Affiliates.

Arcnet Topology
Arcnet Network Topology and Client Access

Arcnet objectives are:
To raise the Internet quality level in Malaysia by providing quality and reliable access coupled with excellent customer service.
To increase the speed of deployment of Internet access services via wireless internet access and corporate DSL.
To contribute to Malaysian technological developments in the Internet space by deploying IPv6 ready networks and services.
To actively provide Internet access services backed by industry leading service level guarantees i.e. 99.9% uptime and packet loss < 0.3%
To resell the local telecommunication provider's infrastructures, thus increasing the overall country's telecommunications revenue.
To be "Telco-independent" by establishing strategic partnerships with all local telecommunication providers.

Currently customer last-mile access to each respective Arcnet PoP is via:

1. Domestic digital leased circuit (DLC)
2. PSTN/ISDN dial-up access
3. ADSL/SDSL access
4. Wireless access
5. Arcnet Internet Data Centre (IDC)

Domestic Digital Leased Circuit (DLC)

DLC access provide always on, 24-hours connection to the Internet. The end-customer can lease a circuit from any of the Telecommunication providers (eg Telekom Malaysia, Maxis Communications and TIME dotCom) and connect to Arcnet's closest Point-of-Presence (PoP). Access bandwidth range from dedicated 64Kbps to 2Mbps. Based on its uninterrupted and reliable nature, this service is mainly catered for corporate customers.

PSTN/ISDN Dial-Up Access

PSTN/ISDN dial-up access is available for users to dial a pre-defined 8 digit number to gain up to 56kbps (PSTN) and 128kbps (ISDN) Internet access service. The network services infrastructure for these circuits are provided by Telekom Malaysia. This service is mainly used by high-end home users and some Small Medium Businesses (SMB). This service from NTT MSC, however, does not offer short-code dialing and data rate charges for end-users.

Broadband Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)

Arcnet offers its DSL broadband services in collaboration with Maxis Communications. NTT MSC has established a working partnership with Maxis in the roll out of its DSL services. As Arcnet does not provide infrastructure services, it utilizes Maxis broadband infrastructure and channels these connections back to its IP layer-3 network. Arcnet DSL services are only offered to customers located in commercial buildings where Maxis Broadband has infrastructure and covers only the Kuala Lumpur central business district and certain parts of PJ.

Broadband Wireless Local Loop (WLL)

Arcnet utilizes open-band wireless local loop as another one of the methods for customers to access its network. The WLL service runs on the radio frequency of 2.4GHz or 5.7GHz under the open ISM and UNI band respectively. This service is offered only to areas within 5 to 8 km radius from Arcnet PoPs as it has a distance limitation factor and also requires direct line of sight. WLL service can achieve speeds from 64Kbps to 2Mbps depending on the distance from customer premises to Arcnet's PoP. It is also quick to deploy and overcomes the long wait to install leased lines in certain areas. This access technology is however susceptible to frequency interference as the radio frequency band is open and not in the private band.
